Mangaluru, September 11, 2026: Jai Tulunad (R.) has urged the Karnataka government to grant additional official language status to Tulu in Karnataka at the State Cabinet meeting scheduled to be held in Mangaluru on September 18.

A memorandum was submitted to Honourable Minister U.T. Khader at Praja Soudha, Padil, Mangaluru, on September 11. The delegation also urged the government to consider renaming Dakshina Kannada district as Mangaluru district.

Several office-bearers and members of Jai Tulunad (R.) were present on the occasion, including Uday Poonja, Founder Member and Farmer President of Jai Tulunad and Tulu Script Teacher; Rajashree Chandrashekar, President, Jai Tulunad Kudla Unit and Tulu Script Teacher; Manish Kumar, Vice President; Niranjan Karkera Porkodi, Organising Secretary; Kiran Tuluve, Founder Member and Tulu Script Teacher; Prathik Tuluve, Vice President, Jai Tulunad Bantwala Unit and Tulu Script Teacher; and Chandra Tuluve, Executive Committee Member.

Others present were Bhavishya S. Kudla, Treasurer, Jai Tulunad Kudla Unit and Tulu Script Teacher; Jeevitha Kuthar, Joint Secretary, Jai Tulunad Kudla Unit and Tulu Script Teacher; Ashwith Samani Beladi, Organising Secretary, Jai Tulunad Karla Unit and Tulu Script Teacher; Mahesh Poojary Mundaje and Nandan Pavithramajal, Members of Jai Tulunad.

Lakshminarayana M., President of Tulunada Daivaparicharaka Kshemabhivruddi Trust (R.), Mangaluru, and Tipesh S. Amin, Media Coordinator of the Trust, were also present.

The delegation appealed to the government to take a favourable decision on the long-standing demand to recognise Tulu as an additional official language of Karnataka, emphasising the importance of strengthening the preservation, promotion and official use of the Tulu language.
