Bengaluru, September 10: A memorandum demanding that Tulu be declared an additional official administrative language of Karnataka was submitted by Jai Tulunad Bengaluru (Reg.) on behalf of various organisations.

The representatives of the organisations urged the government to take a favourable decision during the Karnataka Cabinet meeting scheduled to be held in Mangaluru on September 18, regarding granting Tulu the status of an additional official administrative language of Karnataka.

The memorandum was submitted to Chief Minister Shri D.K. Shivakumar through Karnataka Legislative Assembly Speaker Shri U.T. Khader. The memorandum urged the government to fulfil the long-standing demand of Tulu speakers by granting official recognition to the Tulu language.

The representatives emphasised that granting official administrative language status to Tulu would be an important step towards the preservation, promotion and development of the Tulu language, culture and heritage. They urged the government to take a positive decision in favour of Tulu at the upcoming Cabinet meeting.

«“Granting official recognition to the Tulu language has been a long-standing aspiration of the Tulu-speaking community. The government should positively consider this demand and grant Tulu the status of an additional official administrative language,” they urged.»

During the meeting, the representatives also briefed the Minister about the ongoing work related to Tulu Unicode. The Minister assured them that he would discuss the matter with the concerned officials and facilitate the necessary arrangements.

The memorandum was submitted in the presence of Nidheesh Shetty, Advisor Bengaluru Unit; Vinay Maniyan, President Bengaluru Unit; Sharath Kodavoor, Vice President, Bengaluru Unit; Guruprasad, Organising Secretary, Bengaluru Unit; Prashanth, Executive Committee Member Bengaluru Unit; Sharath Peraje, Member Bengaluru Unit; and Sharath Hegde Kadtal, Member Bengaluru Unit.
