Online Tulu script classes draw enthusiastic participation
MANGALURU: An online workshop series aimed at promoting and preserving the traditional Tulu script has received an enthusiastic response from men and women across different age groups conducted by Jai Tulunad (R.) Kudla Unit.
The virtual workshop, titled “Bale Tulu Lipi Kalpuga” (Come, Let’s Learn Tulu Script), was organised to introduce participants to the basics of the Tulu script and encourage greater interest in reading and writing Tulu.
The sessions, expertly guided by Tulu script teachers Ashwitha Ashok Tuluvedi (Ashwitha Kudla), Shilpashri Tuluvedi and Sharath Raj Alankar, covered vowels, consonants, numbers, and basic sentence construction. The online format enabled participants from different parts of Karnataka and beyond to join the classes from their homes.
Organisers said the initiative was intended to make learning the Tulu script more accessible while encouraging younger generations and language enthusiasts to engage with Tulu’s written heritage.
Participants welcomed the initiative and said learning to read and write their mother tongue in its traditional script was a matter of pride.
Following the response to the programme, organisers are planning to conduct more advanced online sessions in the coming months.
